WHO WE ARE
HOPE Management Committee

President
-
John is the founder and current
President of HOPE worldwide (Singapore). An avid believer
in helping the poor and needy, John, together with his wife
Karen, founded HOPE worldwide (Singapore), as well as HOPE
worldwide (Malaysia) and (Indonesia). In Singapore, besides
actively participating in various Com Chest fundraiser events
organised by NCSS and various community volunteer work, John
brings the work of HOPE worldwide (Singapore) to a greater
height when he championed and pioneered the use of Movie Therapy
as a counselling tool to help the “emotionally needy”
in the community. John graduated from City University, London
with an Honours degree in Mechanical Engineering. He also
has a Masters in Counselling from Monash University. A trained
family life educator and marriage counsellor, John is also
a registered counsellor of the Singapore Association for Counselling,
and professional member of the Australian Counselling Association
and the American Counseling Association. John is married with
two teenage children.
Vice-President
- Shelley is an active volunteer
since 1998. As vice-president of the management committee,
she contributes greatly especially in the area of governance.
Shelley has a law degree from University College London and
is currently a paralegal with M/s M Rama Law Corporation.
She is married with two young children.
Treasurer
- Kelvin graduated with a Degree
in Engineering from Nanyang Technological University (NTU)
in 1999. He has been working in the Financial Service Sector
for 7 years. Kelvin started volunteering in various community
programmes since he was a teenager, and has been an active
volunteer for HOPE worldwide (Singapore) since it was founded
in 1998. Kelvin is married and has two children.
Secretary
- Jane is an enthusiastic volunteer
since 1999. She plays an active role in the organizing committee
in various voluntary programmes such as Festive Fundraising
at Istana Place and Corporate Volunteerism Project for States
Street Bank, Singapore. Jane is a Senior Systems Analyst in
Keppel Shipyard Limited. She has a degree in Computer Science
and Information Systems.
Committee
Member - Ai Hwa is passionate about
helping the poor and needy and has served for many years as
a Board member for HOPE worldwide (Singapore). She plays a
vital role in serving as the Secretary on the Board as well
as in assisting to coordinate our annual Fundraising efforts
both for the Com Chest Festive Care and Share Donation Drives
and our HOPE Flag Days. Ai Hwa is a certified Senior Information
Technology Project Manager with the Singapore Computer Society,
and is Business Manager for Ecommerce in Singapore Airlines.
She is married with three young children.
Committee
Member - Philix has been with the Singapore
Armed Forces (SAF) for close to 28 years. Known for his maturity,
reliability and servitude, Philix has been a volunteer since
2001 and participates actively in many HOPE worldwide (Singapore)
volunteer programmes. He is married and has three children.
Committee
Member - Elfin is an active volunteer
since 1998. As an Early Childhood Educator by profession,
she is passionate in serving and nurturing little children.
She also contributes greatly in the Preteens ministry in the
church she serves. Elfin is an entrepreneur and Director of
My Smart Baby Pte Ltd. She is a married with a lovely girl.

Member - David is an active volunteer
and ardent supporter of HOPE worldwide (Singapore) since 2001.
He plays a vital role in organizing many of our fundraising
event and our community volunteer work. He is a businessman
and director of XII International.
Committee
Member - Dr. Tan Cher Ming received
his B.Eng (1st class honor) in Electrical Engineering from
National University of Singapore in 1984, Master of Applied
Science in Quantum Electrochemistry and Ph.D in Quantum Electronics
from University of Toronto in 1987 and 1992 respectively.
He is presently an Associate Professor and the Chair of EEE
Industrial Collaboration Committee in Nanyang Technological
University. In spite of his heavy commitment, Dr Tan found
time to be involved in many HOPE worldwide (Singapore) volunteer
programmes. Dr Tan is married and has a son.

Member - Manoj is an active volunteer
since 1998. He is passionate about helping the community improve
their way of life. Besides volunteering for HOPE worldwide
(Singapore), he also serves as Grass Roots Leader at the Ulu
Pandan Community Club. An Advocate and Solicitor by profession,
Manoj is an invaluable member in our Management Committee.
He is married and has a daughter.

John Louis
John Louis graduated with
an Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the City
University, London, in 1985. John is also president of HOPE
worldwide (Singapore), and is a trained family life educator
and marriage counselor. He has a Masters Degree in Counselling
from Monash University. He is also a Registered Counsellor
of the Singapore Association for Counselling, and Professional
Member of the American and the Australian Counselling Associations.
John and his wife Karen have also conducted
conferences, seminars and workshops on family, marriage and
parenting, in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. They work
closely with the Family Life Education programmes by Ministry
of Community Development, Youth & Sports (MCYS), and give
talks through the Family Life Education (FLE) and Family Life
Ambassador (FLA) programmes.

Karen McDonald Louis
Karen McDonald Louis graduated
with honors (Cum Laude) from the University of Massachusetts,
Amherst majoring in Classics, specializing in Latin &
Greek. She holds a Graduate Certificate in Parent Leadership
Education Training from Swinburne University of Technology,
Australia, a Masters in Counselling from Monash University.
She is also a Registered Counsellor of the Singapore Association
for Counselling, and Professional Member of the American and
the Australian Counselling Associations.
In her capacity as a Family Educator,
Karen has organized and spoken at marriage workshops and at
many parenting workshops on child development and education.
She has been conducting parenting talks and doing marriage
counselling for more than fifteen years in England, Australia,
Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia.
Her most recent
publication (commissioned by MCYS) on Intergeneration Bonding,
entitled “G-Connect – Bonding Generations”
was launched in early December 2005 to provides essential
working tips for families.

Joyce Tan
Joyce Tan is a graduate from
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge,
Massachusetts, having received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical
Engineering in 1986. She has received Pastoral and Counselling
Training from the Boston School of Missions, a Graduate Certificate
in Parent Education Leadership from Swinburne University,
Australia and Family Resource Training Centre, Singapore,
and a Masters Degree in Counselling from Monash University.
Joyce is a Professional Member of the American and the
Australian Counselling Associations.
Joyce has worked with Teens, Singles,
Marrieds and Parents for the past 18 years in America and
Singapore. Currently on staff with Hope worldwide (Singapore), Joyce Tan serves as the Chief Executive Officer and
also as a Family Life Education Speaker. She is married and
has 2 lively and active boys.

Patrice Lee
Patrice Lee is a graduate
of the University of California at Berkeley. She also has
a Graduate Certificate in Parent Education Leadership Training
awarded jointly from Swinburne University, Australia and Family
Resource Training Centre, Singapore; and a Masters in Counselling
from Monash University, Australia. Patrice is a Professional
Member of the American and the Australian Counselling
Associations.
Although an American, Patrice has been
residing in Singapore for the past 17 years. She and her husband
have conducted numerous marriage and parenting seminars and
workshops throughout Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. Along
with this, for the past four years she has done individual
and family counselling in the local schools. She has three
wonderful children, one in primary school and two in secondary
school.

HOPE worldwide (Singapore) has 14 dedicated
and experienced volunteers serving as resource speakers,
counsellors, and IT & Technology consultants.
