HOPE
worldwide - INDONESIA
Indonesia is a country of 220 million
people with 117 million (54%) living on under $2 a day, as reported
by UK's Department for International Development. 35% of Indonesian
children under 5 years old (6.5 million) are malnourished, while
monthly income per person is only at US$104 (US$ 1,250 GDP) creating
a huge challenge in poverty reduction. In addition, this year an
estimated 140,000 Indonesians will die from Tuberculosis and 42,000
will die from Malaria, not to mention other causes. In the past
24 months alone there were two tsunamis, four earthquakes, one volcanic
eruption and countless floods and landslides, and several jet airline
crashes.

Highlights of Key Programs :-
HEALTH
Tuberculosis Control Centre
- From one small free clinic opened
in 1994, there are now three clinics dedicated to providing free
treatment for Tuberculosis patients from the low-income and slum
areas of Jakarta.
Disaster
Relief - When
there are natural or manmade disasters, such as those in Aceh, Nias,
Jogjakarta and even in the city of Jakarta itself, HOPE worldwide
disaster teams provide emergency medical relief, shelter and food
for those most effected. HOPE also works alongside the local communities
to provide sustainable medical and educational programs in the effected
areas.
EDUCATIONAL
Citigroup Success Fund
- As a way of motivating and encouraging
teachers to be creative, HOPE worldwide Indonesia, in partnership
with Citigroup Foundation, offers awards to teachers and schools
throughout West, Central and East Java. This program has impacted
over 299 teachers and 15,000 students.
Computer Training
Centre -
This program gives youths from underprivileged homes basic computer
skills and English training, thus providing them with the necessary
education to find employment.
CHILDREN
Rainbow of Love Orphanage
- HOPE worldwide Indonesia not only
provides educational programs and medical assistance for the children
of Indonesia; it also provides a loving and caring home for those
who are ‘nobody’s child’. The Rainbow of Love
Orphanage was founded in 1997. Since it’s beginning, 61 children
have been adopted and 74 have been cared for by the loving and dedicated
staff.
