Singapore Cheshire
Home in Serangoon
The Singapore Cheshire Home
runs a Residential Home with a capacity for 67 residents who suffer
mainly from muscular dystrophy/atrophy, spastic, cerebral palsy,
deformities, spinal/head injuries. They receive nursing care, physiotherapy
and occupational therapy, training in daily living skills, handicraft,
computer practices and recreational activities.
Volunteers with the Central
Christian Church and HOPE worldwide (Singapore) have been serving
the residents at the Cheshire Home since Jan 2007. Volunteers undergo
wheelchair training provided by the Home and learn how to manage
the residents’ needs as they take them for outings. Thus far,
outings have included visits to shopping malls, picnics, and even
street carnivals.
Ms Florence Chow, General Manager,
the Singapore Cheshire Home, expressed her gratitude for the volunteers
in a letter to the Central Christian Church.
“This is to thank you
and your church members for visiting the Home…Please accept,
and convey to your church members, our grateful appreciation for
your diligent and concerted efforts with the less fortunate….
Your support of our work in caring for the severely disabled through
efforts such as this is a great encouragement to us.”
