HOPE for Seniors Day

The HOPE for Seniors Day began in 2005 as a community  partnership with State Street Bank and HOPE worldwide  (Singapore). This programme aims to reach out to the  elderly in the community by cleaning and painting flats as  well as providing emotional support through activities with  the volunteers. .

From the first batch of 112 volunteers serving over 100 seniors in Toa Payoh in 2005, the programme has expanded tremendously in the past two years. In 2006 and 2007, working in partnership with several Voluntary Welfare Organizations, over 800 volunteers from State Street Bank, Central Christian Church, HOPE worldwide (Singapore), and the South East Community Development Council
served over 500 elderly throughout all corners of Singapore.

With funding and sponsorship provided predominantly by State Street Bank and the South East CDC, volunteers have been able to do repair work, painting, and even flat makeovers for those elderly living in more destitute conditions.

Along with the work done in the flats, volunteers also provide entertainment, lucky draws, high tea buffets, and even line-dancing instruction while the flats are being cleaned.

All in all, the elderly and the volunteers have been greatly enriched by the experience.
