On 31 March 2006, the Prime Minister of Singapore, PM
Lee Hsien Loong awarded tokens of appreciation to the recipients
of the Comcare Enterprise Fund (CEF) as acknowledgement
of their contribution to the community. President of HOPE
worldwide (Singapore) Mr. John Philip Louis became the
recipient of this award. Mr. Louis is the champion for
the social enterprise Movie Therapy, a new therapy approach
that uses movies as a counselling tool.
HOPE worldwide (Singapore) has been awarded the Comcare
Enterprise Fund (CEF) for its social enterprise Movie Therapy.
This new therapy approach uses movies as a tool to help
clients obtain awareness and to work through issues with
the counsellor.
The Comcare Enterprise Fund (CEF) is
a programme under Comcare Selfreliance offered by the
Ministry of Community
Development, Youth & Sports (MCYS) to provide seed
funding to start sustainable business enterprises which
are focused on helping the needy in Singapore.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong launched the Comcare Fund
in June last year with the purpose of providing a springboard
to the needy and to ensure that no man is left behind while
Singapore progresses. It comprises 3 key programme pillars:
Comcare Selfreliance, Comcare Grow, and Comcare Enable.
Movie Therapy by HOPE worldwide (Singapore) was among the
13 social enterprises that have received funding support
from the CEF, awarded under Comcare Selfreliance, since
the launch of Comcare.
On 31 March 2006, at the launch of the Ang Mo Kio Community
Care Network, Prime Minister Lee presented tokens of appreciation
to the recipients of the Comcare Enterprise Fund for their
contribution to the community. The champion of Movie Therapy,
Mr John Philip Louis, who is also President of HOPE worldwide
(Singapore), became the proud recipient of the award.
“It is an honour for me to receive this award on
behalf of HOPE worldwide (Singapore) for our social enterprise,
Movie Therapy. We believe very strongly that movies, when
appropriately used, are a powerful counselling tool,” said
Mr. John Louis. “We feel very fulfilled when lives,
families and relationships are impacted through Movie Therapy.
With the Singapore Government, MCYS and Prime Minister
Lee’s show of support and appreciation for our work
through the CEF and tonight’s event, we are very
encouraged because public recognition of our work will
help us to reach and serve more people in the community.”
HOPE worldwide (Singapore), a charity
and society registered in Singapore since 1998, has also
participated actively
in the Community Chest Festive Care & Share Programme – an
annual fundraiser event to help the poor and needy. In
2003, they received The Special Event Silver Award from
NCSS presented by His Excellency S.R. Nathan, President
of Singapore. They also received awards of commendation
for their active participation in 2002, 2003 and 2004.
