The Institute of Mental Health, an acute tertiary psychiatric hospital, has 50 wards for inpatients. Volunteers with HOPE worldwide (Singapore) and Central Christian Church have been regularly visiting the elderly residents at Ward 53 since Mar 2007. The volunteers organize social and recreational activities which include singing, dancing lessons, games, refreshments and warm interaction. The consistent visitation provides the long-term residents with much needed companionship.
