The Western Union, in collaboration with HOPE worldwide (Singapore) (HOPEwwS), also awarded education grants worth a total of S$5,000 to 10 migrant workers working in Brunei during an Award Ceremony which took place in Brunei on 15 October 2009.

Now in its third year, more than 200 applications were received and the 10 winners are migrant workers originating from India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh.

The Western Union Education Grants were open to migrant workers in Brunei from all countries with school-going children in their respective countries. The final 10 recipients were determined based on criteria including number and ages of children, marital status and income. The judging panel included staff of Baiduri Bank and HOPEwwS.
